  • Crane Lifting Wing

Posted on 25. July 2012 by Thomas in Recent Posts, Wings.

The crane was very helpful putting the wing into the right position. He is lifting very slowly and so it much easier to align the 1 degree dihedral.

  • Left Strut Cut

Posted on 25. July 2012 by Thomas in Recent Posts, Wings.

The left strut is cut and put in place. I am happy that everything is in the right length. Doing an error here would be bad. Getting another strut would be hard and expensive.

  • Detail of back fittings

A detail of the back fitting. One 1/4 bolt which holds everything together.

  • Detail of left front wing fitting

Posted on 25. July 2012 by Thomas in Recent Posts, Wings.

These pictures show the front wing fitting in detail. As you can see in the second picture, there is a gap between the fittings and the fuselage attach points. As pointed out in the manual, the gaps on both sides need to be filled with spacers or washers.

  • Right Wing Mounted

Posted on 25. July 2012 by Thomas in Recent Posts, Wings.

The right wing is mounted. The right side was much easier, perfect fit. The holes where all aligned. So from the right to the left wing tip I have only  4 mm difference.

  • I love these Drill Presses

Posted on 25. July 2012 by Thomas in Miscellaneous, Recent Posts.

Today I first used one of these ancient drill presses. These are wonderful. Absolutely precise, no moving of parts like in my new one. You only need to take care not to get your finger or hand into the transmission belt. BTW: This drill press was built in 1927!     This second machine is […]

  • Setting Dihedral

Posted on 23. July 2012 by Thomas in Recent Posts, Wings.

The wings need to have 1 degree dihedral. My electronic level again helped a lot. Everything is perfectly in place now, the strut comes next.

  • Mounting Left Wing

Posted on 23. July 2012 by Thomas in Recent Posts, Wings.

Today I started mounting the wings. Left wing was first. I constructed two scaffolds, where we put the wing on. The crane was used as safety measure. I knew that the front fittings were a little misaligned, so it was a lot a fiddling around. Finally I got everything installed and the wing was […]

  • Workshop with crane

Posted on 22. July 2012 by Thomas in Miscellaneous, Recent Posts.

Also I have a crane in the new workshop. This is a versatile tool. Movable electrical in all directions all over the workshop.  It can lift up to 1000 kg. So no problem to lift the plane at all.

  • Fully Equipped New Workshop

Posted on 22. July 2012 by Thomas in Miscellaneous, Recent Posts.

My new building location is a former mechanical engeneering workshop. Full of old tools. Sometimes you feel like in a museum. I now have 5 turning lathes available. All of them still working! The biggest one can take components up to 5 meters (15 feet). The drill press is also cool, it will have enough […]

  • Moving wings

Posted on 22. July 2012 by Thomas in Miscellaneous, Recent Posts.

Also the wings have to be moved. I used a former lumber trailer. It took both wings perfectly. The transport itself was not problem. Wings arrived without damage.

  • Moving Airplane

Posted on 22. July 2012 by Thomas in Miscellaneous, Recent Posts.

Our building starts into a new phase. To be able to mount the wings, we had to move the airplane. The wings wouldn’t fit into our garage, so we moved to a nearby workshop of some relatives. We had to move the plane approximately 500 meters. Since it has its own wheels, we decided just […]
